ALCHEMIZE:  TRANSFORM THE NATURE OR PROPERTIES OF (SOMETHING) BY A SEEMINGLY MAGICAL PROCESS

When I was younger, I loved the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. I was drawn to the metaphor of turning metal into gold – the notion that in life, even seemingly challenging situations can be transformed into greatness and something extraordinary.  A powerful reminder to forge our own paths, dream big and be the bold and courageous architects of our own lives.  There is magic in all of us, should we choose to welcome it.

Throughout my corporate career, I sensed a calling for something more. Though unsure of specifics, my desire was clear - I knew I wanted to build community, support people, empower people, live a life of passion and purpose and inspire others to do the same. It wasn't until I encountered breathwork that the pieces fell into place, unveiling a transformative revelation. This unexpected journey has forever altered my life, and I am eternally grateful.

Hi, I'm Shannon, founder of The Collective Alchemy.

I specialize in trauma-informed breathwork, yoga nidra, and trauma-of-money coaching. By integrating my personal and professional experiences with my training and certifications, I am dedicated to guiding and empowering you in healing your relationship with yourself.

My approach involves facilitating the release of stagnant energy—be it emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual—making the deep, transformative work accessible, inviting, and impactful. I gently guide you away from overthinking in the mind, and into your body and heart, recognizing that the answers that we seek often lie within us rather than through intellectual processes. Nurturing your nervous system from within your body enhances your success in letting go, releasing anxiety and navigating challenges.  And I believe wholeheartedly from my own personal experience, that a happy nervous system equals a much happier you.

Your body continually communicates with you, offering an invitation for growth, change, and healing. The key is choosing to listen. Drawing from my personal journey, I understand the significance of finding safety and comfort within ourselves. It is from this calm, grounded, and peaceful place that we can authentically create and live the purposeful life we desire.

Allow me to guide you beneath the surface, where deeper healing awaits.

HOW IT ALL STARTED…

In my early 20s, anxiety made its initial appearance - manageable at first, until it escalated in my late 20s and early 30s during a painfully prolonged relationship. For over four years, I found myself perpetually stuck in fight or flight, my nervous system utterly dysregulated - a term that, at the time, was completely unfamiliar to me. Weekly emotional breakdowns, constant nausea and digestion issues, and tunnel vision dominated my existence. Reactivity, anger, indecision, and physical discomfort became my norm. Sleep eluded me, and the joy in life seemed elusive. I became a mere passenger in my body, waiting for someone else to change their behaviours so I could change my life. Despite futile attempts to think my way out, I remained stuck, stagnant, isolated, and unsure of how to reclaim my well-being.  And I felt very alone as I was ashamed to tell anyone what I was truly going through.

The turning point arrived in a figurative smack across the face with a two-by-four when the betrayal and pain hit an all-time high, and I finally reached my absolute breaking point.  After the relationship ended, aware of the deep hole I was in, I embarked on a journey of emotional turbulence, initially seeking less healthy coping mechanisms before discovering meditation. This eventually led me to breathwork, yoga nidra, and other more constructive healing avenues.  I eventually left Vancouver, moved to Whistler to be closer to nature and the sports I loved, quit working in the corporate world and created The Collective Alchemy.

Through this challenging period, I learned that even in the darkest times, opportunities for growth abound. Though initially daunting, these moments hold immense potential for alchemizing goodness in our lives - if we choose to embrace them. This can be hard to see when you are in the eye of the storm, which is why I am so passionate about supporting people with tools like breathwork, yoga nidra, meditation and other mindfulness and embodiment practices that help us step away from the negative thought loops, negative self-talk, limiting beliefs, patterns and behaviours that hold us back and prevent us from moving forward.

BREATHWORK AND OTHER HEALING MODALITIES

After my first experience with breathwork, I sensed an immediate shift—a profound change I didn't realize I needed. While I enjoyed meditation, it lacked the depth I eventually realized I needed - breathwork emerged as the missing element. It became the gateway to transformative tools and learning that reshaped my life.

Knowing my life had changed irreversibly, I recognized the wisdom gained by stepping out of my thinking mind and into my body and heart. The journey, initially personal, evolved into both a personal and professional pursuit. I transitioned away from my corporate job to delve into breathwork, mindfulness, somatic practices, and the intricacies of the nervous system. These became the catalyst for my path to healing the relationship with myself, with breathwork at its core.

Breathwork serves as a gentle reminder to step aside from self-imposed roadblocks. It encourages healing in the body, where the mind may resist or not let you go. We often grow comfortable with our stories, beliefs, and behaviours, reacting in familiar ways to perceived threats – yes, in a way to protect us, but at the same time, giving us a false sense of comfort and safety. Breathwork, an inherent tool within, fosters comfort in the unknown, allowing both mind and body to find safety and thus growth and transformation.

This incredible experience inspired me to create The Collective Alchemy, a community dedicated to collective healing, growth, transformation, expansion, and connection. It's a space to unearth the magic within and to alchemize challenges into goodness - into gold.

Leaving that initial breathwork session, I felt:

  • A profound connection with myself and my heart, surpassing any prior experience.

  • A newfound safety and comfort within, an assurance that everything would be okay.

  • Confidence in uncovering answers within myself by slowing down and listening from within, from my heart and soul.

  • Liberation from letting anxiety potentially dictating my life.

  • Improved ability to navigate triggers and respond differently.

  • Excitement about embodying my true self.

  • As if layers of emotional debris had been shed, allowing me to see the world with a new lens.

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”

- Paul Coelho
